Yesterday was my first book event as a vendor outside of my home state of Connecticut. Thank you to Bookaround for hosting the 2026 Summer Book Festival in Rhode Island; it was a blast. I fell short of my sales expectations, only selling five books. However, I made some connections, and those precious moments are worth far more. Of course, I met with some familiar indie authors and networked like always, but it was one of my buyers who stood out to me and gave me one of the most heartwarming connections I’ve had in a long time.
Making Memories One Book At a Time
Early on, this kind young lady nearly walked past my booth, but the autism theme caught her eye at the last second. I told her about the book’s themes and messages, and, excited, she bought the first copy for her autistic sister. Honestly, that moment already made my day. After the first two hours, sales stopped for me, and I was exhausted after waking at 5 am to get to Pawtucket on time. Hours later, she returned with her sister, who wanted to meet me in person, and my spirits were rejuvenated. This was a stark reminder of why I became an author. These are the connections I live for. It’s because representation matters, and it’s needed for the autism community. I hope those two young ladies enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed meeting them.
