There’s an old phrase that’s known as stop and smell the roses. I think many people can relate to this because we’re always going a thousand miles an hour. Now it can be several different aspects of life. We work, go to school, take care of our kids, or having side hustles to help pay the bills. It’s possible that the reason years go by so fast once you enter adulthood is because we don’t stop and sniff the roses. Now what does that metaphor even mean? We’ll that’s the trick it’s not a one size fits all narrative. There’s many ways to smell the roses. Today, I went to a trampoline park with the Social Chase group and had some of the most fun that I had in months.
Sometimes Take a Break and Have Fun
For me smelling the roses means appreciating a sunset or spending a few hours with my friends to catch up, nothing extraordinary. A hike in the spring relieves so much built-up stress from life, it’s as if the weight of the world is momentarily lifted off my shoulders. Another perk is that I come up with some of my best ideas for writing when smelling the roses. Do you know why? It’s because I’m not forcing it by staring at a computer screen, so my mind is free to wander off with added pressure of actually writing something. We are humans, not machines after all. I think letting loose, recharging our ‘batteries’ can be a good thing. Life is too short already, do you really want it to be shorter by going a hundred miles an hour without stopping every once in a while?
