I remembering hearing the phrase “branding” a lot as a teenager watching youtubers on his phone. The sentence of you have to protect your branding and make yourself stand out from the rest, was firmly planted into my mind. Little did I know then how much I would personally be affected by it. As a starving artist, I have to protect what’s mine. It’s a sad reality, but even on social media, people steal your content without giving you credit. So, what did I do about it? I created a website with a weekly blog, logo, and recently I designed a t-shirt with my book cover on it. I’m slowly but surely getting the hang of this whole branding shtick. It’s ideal to learn and grow a little bit everyday.
Make Yourself Stand Out
I’m not here to tell you all the minute details that go into branding. Keep in mind I wasn’t a business, major in college, I’m still learning as I go. However, I think the basic protections you can put into your writing or art is putting watermarks or your name on posts. For the big guns like a novel, submit a copyright claim to the U.S. Copyright Office as an extra layer of protection. Yes, I said ‘added’ because the moment you create content, art, or a poem it is legally yours. So, creating an branding empire is a crucial part of becoming a successful business owner, content creator, artist, and author. It’s important to bear one thing in mind, your branding is your audience.
